Feb. 23

Prayer Intentions:

- for Mrs. Funaro and her family
- for the grade 8 girls' basketball team
- for Alex's personal intention
- for Jessica's grandmother

Prayer leader was Lorenz. Next day it will be Isabella.

Please note, anyone going to the funeral on Friday should not worry about bringing in homework for checking before going. I can check your homework just as easily on Tuesday.

First two blocks

- We finished off most of the speeches. There are a few left for Friday (or sometime after).
- We talked about which book to select for the next novel study. Students will be doing this study independently and will have a number of assignments to complete with the study.

Last Block

- We filled out the sheet to select the book to read (Throwaway Daughter or Forbidden City).
- We received study guides for the Middle Ages unit test.
- We started work on the Early China unit.

Homework:

- The map is due (for keeping as your notes) next Tuesday (March 1).
- The fill-in-the-blanks on pages 74-76 is due on Friday.
- I will be checking the Outsiders questions next class.
- REMEMBER: The project is due Friday, Feb. 25 (unless you have received an extension).

Feb. 21

Prayer Intentions:

Today, we prayed for the repose of Mrs. Funaro and for peace for her family. Justin was our prayer leader.

Next class, Lorenz will lead us in prayer.

First two blocks:

- Cigarette packaging: reading/discussion
- introduction of new unit: China
- announcement of Middle Ages test: March 7


Homework:


- Watch the news and be prepared to be called upon to discuss various news items.
- Work on your Outsiders homework: vocabulary (due Wednesday) and project (due Friday).
- China map due in about a week or so. This map will be part of your notes on China and will not be collected for marks.

- We tidied up the Middle Ages, finished off the reading in the textbook (pp. 161-168) and took notes (own style).

Middle Ages Market Place

Everyone brought in their visuals and played their assigned roles. In the last block, you did silent reading while I gave each group feedback on their oral, visual, and costume.

You also turned in your second drafts of your essays. I will return these to you for Thursday's class so you can work on your good copies.

Next class:

- In-class report on your Middle Ages topic. You must have your Works Cited page, so be sure to print it out BEFORE first class on Thursday.

- We'll finish off reading The Outsiders. Vocabulary sheets are due Feb. 23, and the project will be due Feb. 25. Test is on Feb. 21.
